Why You Deserve a Solo Photoshoot (Yes, Just You!)
July 23, 2025At Shot by Roop, we have carried out many projects with clients who said “I am not photogenic” and yet they loved their photos in the end. The reason? Because we concentrate on authentic poses, really natural movements, and above all—making sure that you are comfortable.
Before the Shoot: How to Prepare
1. Wear What Feels Like You
Being confident stems from being comfortable. Go for clothes that fit well, represent you, and don’t restrict your movements V. Don’t wear clothes that are too tight or have styles you wouldn’t normally wear.
2. Communicate with Your Photographer
Talk to us about all the things that make you unhappy, your fears, and what you are expecting from the photo session. Had we more information about you, we could have been of more assistance.
3. Mirror Training (Seriously!)
There is no doubt that you don’t have to be like a supermodel on the runway, but experimenting with various facial expressions or poses in front of the mirror will make you feel more comfortable once the camera is turned on.

During the Shoot: Our Posing Philosophy
1. Movement > Poses
We didn’t just stop at one place and take photos of you. Walking, laughing, holding hands—natural actions result in natural photos.
2. Prompt, Don’t Pose
Direct instructions were avoided and instead we employed prompts such as “Whisper something funny in their ear” or “Walk toward me like you’re on a mission.” These were just two people having a conversation and not a situation where they needed to be facing each other.
3. Use Your Hands
Do not let your arms hang there in a rigid posture—act, for example, touch your partner, fix your hair. Small movements like these are the life of the photo.
4. Break the Ice with Candid Shots
Through light conversation and candid shots, we get rid of all nervousness and your real self appears.
Bonus Tips for Looking Natural on Camera
- Take deep breaths—your face will show the calm.
- Don’t smile with your mouth only—smile with your eyes as well.
Photography is not about Posing—It's about Trust
A wonderful picture results from a good relationship between the subject and the photographer. We at Shot by Roop do not require you to “act.” Our role is to lead, motivate, and record the true you—be it energic, shy and quiet, or just any mood in the middle.
